Why Kenya's Wedding Season Really Starts in July (Part 1)

Every July, the conversations I have with couples start to change.

Couples planning weddings for December, January and February begin reaching out. Some already have a date in mind. Others simply know they want to bring family home and celebrate in Kenya while everyone is together for the holidays.

From the outside, July can look early for a festive season wedding.

From the planning side, it's exactly right.

After years of planning weddings across Kenya, from the Maasai Mara to the Diani coastline, I've learned that July is when many of the decisions that shape a successful wedding are made. Not because couples need more time to worry, but because starting early gives them more options: first choice of venues, better availability from trusted suppliers, and enough lead time for guests flying in from abroad to book before holiday fares rise.

If you're planning a destination wedding in Kenya over the festive season, here's why timing matters and what to lock in first.

Why Kenya's Top Wedding Venues Book Out Early

The Maasai Mara, the Diani coast, Naivasha and some of Nairobi's most sought-after wedding venues start receiving enquiries months before peak dates. A venue may still look available online, but several couples could already be holding the same date while they finalise contracts.

By September, those calendars often look very different.

Secure the Venue, Then Build Your Team

Once the venue is confirmed, everything else starts to fall into place.

Photographers, florists, entertainers, celebrants, accommodation providers and transport companies all work within limited capacity.

The professionals who consistently deliver exceptional weddings rarely have open calendars waiting for last-minute bookings.

They stay booked because experienced couples know the right team shapes the entire experience.

Planning a Wedding in Kenya from Abroad

For destination weddings, timing matters even more.

Many of the couples I work with live in London, Toronto, Sydney or New York. Planning from another country means coordinating across time zones, making decisions remotely and relying on trusted partners on the ground.

The process simply works better when there's enough time to do it well.

That's why, for me, July marks the real start of Kenya's wedding season. The celebrations may happen months later, but the foundations are laid long before guests arrive.

What's Next

In Part 2, I'll share why couples who start planning in July tend to have a calmer experience and more choices than those who wait until later in the year.

In the meantime, if you're planning a December, January or February wedding in Kenya, get in touch with the TriFecta Events team to check venue and date availability.
