December Wedding in Kenya Planning Guide (Part 2): Why Starting Early Means a Calmer Wedding

In Part 1, I explained why July marks the real start of Kenya's wedding season. Venues across the Maasai Mara, Diani, Naivasha, and Nairobi fill up months ahead, and the best suppliers book out long before the festive season arrives.
This time, I want to talk about what an early start actually feels like for couples. The biggest difference I see isn't only in availability. It's in how calm the whole process feels.
More Choice When It Matters Most
Couples who start in July get to choose. Couples who start in October often have to settle.
With time on your side, you can properly compare two or three venues, visit in person or via video walkthrough, and hold the date that suits your family rather than the one that happens to be left.
That matters in Kenya, where each setting comes with its own logistics. A safari wedding in the Maasai Mara involves lodge capacity, flights and game drive timing. A beach wedding in Diani depends on tides, heat and coastal accommodation. A lakeside celebration in Naivasha is easier for Nairobi guests to reach but books quickly for weekends. Starting early gives you room to weigh these properly.
Decisions Made Without Pressure

When the wedding is five months away, a menu tasting is a pleasure. When it's five weeks away, it's another deadline.
Early planning lets couples:
Review supplier contracts carefully instead of signing in a rush
Spread payments across several months
Refine décor, florals and styling through proper mood boards and samples
Change their minds without it costing the whole plan
Calm couples make better decisions, and it shows on the day.
Guests Travelling from Abroad Have Time to Plan

For destination weddings in Kenya, your guests are planning too.
Friends and family flying in from London, Toronto or New York need time to request leave, book flights before holiday fares rise, and check entry requirements. Many also want to add a safari or a few days on the coast to the trip.
Early save-the-dates make that possible. They also help us secure room blocks at lodges and hotels, which are often limited in December.
Room to Personalise Every Detail

The details that make a wedding feel like yours take time: custom stationery, bespoke floral design, a menu that reflects both families, or a traditional ceremony such as a ruracio planned alongside the wedding.
Many of our diaspora couples are bringing two families and sometimes two cultures together. Giving those conversations the time they need is one of the most valuable parts of starting early.
A Realistic Timeline for a December Wedding in Kenya
Here's the timeline I recommend to couples planning a festive season wedding:
July to August: set your budget and guest count, appoint your wedding planner, confirm the venue and send save-the-dates to international guests
September: book key suppliers, including photography, catering, décor and entertainment
October: finalise guest accommodation and transport, and send formal invitations
November: menu tasting, final styling decisions and the day-of schedule
December: final confirmations with every supplier, the rehearsal and, finally, the celebration
Already Past July? Here's What to Do

If you're reading this later in the year, a festive season wedding is still possible. It just needs focus.
Confirm your venue first, this week if you can
Bring in an experienced wedding planner in Kenya who already knows which suppliers still have capacity
Stay flexible on dates. A Thursday, a Sunday or early January often opens up options
Prioritise the suppliers that matter most to you and book those first
Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a wedding venue in Kenya for December? Ideally five to six months ahead. Popular venues in the Maasai Mara, Diani, Naivasha and Nairobi often receive enquiries for December dates from mid-year.
Can I plan a wedding in Kenya while living abroad? Yes. Most of our couples plan remotely from the UK, Canada, the US and Australia. A local planner handles site visits, supplier meetings and on-the-ground coordination, with regular video calls to keep you involved.
When is the busiest wedding season in Kenya? The December holiday period is one of the busiest, as many families living abroad travel home. Venues and suppliers book up fastest for dates between mid-December and early January.
Is it too late to plan a December wedding in Kenya in October? Not always, but choice becomes limited. Flexible dates and an experienced planner make a big difference.
